Meet our Wellbeing Team

At Sholem Aleichem College, we value and prioritise the wellbeing of our students, staff and parents/guardians. We are committed to supporting and developing the ‘whole child’ and therefore each child’s physical, emotional and social wellbeing is a focus.

We know that children need to feel safe, secure and supported in order to learn and thrive. Our Wellbeing Coordinator works closely with classroom teachers to embed social‑emotional learning, emotional literacy and wellbeing practices across everyday school life. This supports positive mental health outcomes and helps students develop the skills they need to understand themselves, build relationships and manage challenges.

Our College psychologist provides specialised and individual support to students, providing strategies to assist children to cope and thrive within the College environment and beyond. Our College Psychologist is able to conduct cognitive testing, which allows us to understand the unique strengths and weaknesses of individual students and cater to their learning needs.

Together, our wellbeing team and teaching staff work in partnership to foster a kind, inclusive and nurturing environment for our students, parents/guardians and for each other. We believe it is essential that everyone in our community feels a strong sense of belonging, care and connection.

Together, our Wellbeing team and our teachers work towards developing the emotional literacy of all our students and fostering a kind, inclusive and nurturing environment for our students, parents/guardians and for each other.

Our Programs

Teachers and educators are continuously up skilled in the areas of Respectful Relationships. We place an enormous focus on 'respect' as a Lead School in the Respectful Relationships program. At our College, this program has evolved into Mentsh Matters, an amalgamation of our values, wellbeing, Jewish ethics, Respectful Relationships, and leadership programs. Mentsh Matters reflects the core values of the College and was officially rolled out across all primary school classes in 2025.

Mentsh Matters acknowledges that children of any age face challenges and provides age-appropriate lessons in social and emotional skills tailored to their level of maturity. It builds on the foundation of Respectful Relationships, but expands to encompass the College's unique cultural and ethical framework, integrating the College’s values, Jewish ethics and leadership principles. Through a range of activities and through the culture built in the classroom, students are provided with strategies to support problem-solving, positive coping, interpersonal development and intrapersonal development. By promoting Jewish ethical approaches to social-emotional development, we aim to create the next generation of mentshn.

In 2026, we introduced Mini Mentsh Matters, which runs from Pre-Kinder to Prep.

As part of our focus on the ‘whole child’, and the importance of keeping children safe and giving them tools to manage challenges in life, we run programs regarding body safety, puberty and body health, social skills and other topics.
